Teresa and Penny founded Katamama on a shared love of travel, taking inspiration from our global wanderings, with the goal of bringing home beautiful pieces which inspire your dreams of beautiful places both close and far.
“Katamama” is an Indonesian word which literally translates to “Mama Says” but what it really means to us is the power of art and design to tell a story and the tradition of handing down our stories and memories from generation to generation.
At the heart of what we do is to make art and design accessible for everyone. It shouldn’t cost the earth to add your personality to your home. Our goal is to bring you beautiful things that make your heart sing.
Most of our products are sourced from the beautiful tropical paradise of Bali. The main thing that attracted us to sourcing products from Bali is the undeniable sense that art and culture play such a core part in everyday Balinese life … the incredibly beautiful offerings given up each day to the deities, the ornately carved woodwork adorning homes, the sounds of the gamelan echoing through the villages at night…
We love the idea that art is a way of life. Our pieces are all handmade with the care and attention only a skilled artisan can give. Each piece really means something. Each piece tells its own story through the craftsmanship and the unique character of the natural materials.
